Pastor Appreciation

Take a little trip with me into the future, 3 months from now. You have just been asked to lead and organize an event to help people in need in your community. Thoughts of nervousness and uncertainty immediately creep in as you think “There is no way I can do this” but immediately you fall to your knees and seek the Lord’s guidance and wisdom. You begin doing research on those you are going to serve and what their specific needs are. Ideas and plans rush through your mind as names of people are revealed to help with this event. Excitement fills your heart as you see the Lord putting all the pieces together required to pull this event off.

Fast-forward as the event is now just days away. The hours of preparations and sleepless nights are now behind you and you’re filled with anticipation for this event. You can see and feel the joy it will bring to those not only receiving the help, but for those helping. As you are reviewing the plans and making some last-minute public communication posts, you see comments in the events Facebook page questioning different aspects of the event, (“Why would anyone plan this during this weekend?”, “Why didn’t they reach out to this family?”, “Who decided to have these people help?”). Your heart breaks and thoughts of doubt creep back in because you knew from the beginning that God has called you to lead, so why don’t others see this? It is only after the event has come and gone that a few people reach out to personally thank you for your leadership and let you know that those who were served couldn’t have gotten through this time in their lives without the support of this event. It is then that peace and confidence fills your soul knowing that your obedience to God’s calling was worth it.

The Holy Spirit gave me this little scenario to share, as many of us have either been in the role of leading or have been associated with a close friend going through a similar event. We believe in the calling of the Father and yet have received the same negative feedback from family, friends, and neighbors. This parallels so much with our Church Pastors and leaders. God has given them a special gift of discernment and called them to lead His church. We can’t always see or know God’s vision, but we know His word is true and that He is faithful to those He calls. Our Pastors put themselves out there because of their desire to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. They take on our hurt, worries, and fears and yet they love us because they know and see the finish line that God has for us. We are lost, forgotten, and feel abandoned, yet our Pastors don’t give up. They pour their time into prayer, discerning, and trusting that we will eventually see the same vision the Lord has given them of eternity.

If we have these feelings during times in our lives, our pastors and leaders are no different. They don’t expect it, but I know they do appreciate words of encouragement and support. I can see that Satan would love more than anything to weaken and destroy our leaders. So why wouldn’t we want to step up and support our Pastors? If I know this is God’s plan, why wouldn’t we worship our Creator by giving words of encouragement to our Pastors? Why wouldn’t we show appreciation with a prayer text, a handshake or hug after church, or a simple thank you to affirm them in their ministry? Why wouldn’t I….because Jesus Christ sacrificially gave up his perfect life for me to live with Him for eternity! Thank you Pastoral Team for your Leadership!

CrossPoint Hays

In September, we will celebrate our 15th anniversary as CrossPoint Hays! As we reflect on all the Lord has done in our midst, we are profoundly grateful for His steadfast love and faithfulness. We look forward to the future and His plans for “one church in many places”.

Psalm 36:5 says, “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.” This beautifully describes God's boundless love and faithfulness, extending to both the heavens and His children. Over the past year, and indeed the past 15, we have so much to celebrate!

This year we affirmed and ordained our first eight deacons. We are blessed by their eagerness to serve using the gifts God has given them. In July, we partnered with CrossPoint Concordia on a mission trip, mainly assisting with a 3-night youth rally. We were in awe of what God enabled us to accomplish in such a short time. The most rewarding moment was witnessing a youth commit their life to Christ! In August, CrossPoint Russell joined us for our annual lake baptisms where we witnessed 5 individuals outwardly express their faith in Christ!

Our partnership with Early Childhood Connections continues, as we seek to serve their staff and families. We hosted the “Go Truck Go” event with them, which attracted over 800 people. We served snow cones and popcorn, running out of both! Our ongoing desire is to love them and share the Gospel in tangible, practical ways.

Pray with us:

  • That we remain faithful in sharing the Gospel through our acts of service.
  • For parents and families as they navigate the difficulties of life.
  • For next steps regarding our building needs.

JONAS: Hope Has Come

“The rumble was barely discernible, but there was no doubt. Darkening skies, that northeast wind dropping the temperature with each gust, and the rumble; a storm was coming.

Jonas didn’t move a muscle or blink, even though he was processing the sound and feel. He knew the storm was coming, but having grown up in Kansas and spent the bulk of his life in this little rural micropolitan, he was aware that what was brewing behind him was at least 20 minutes away.

He thought for a moment about turning around to see if the billowing thunderheads had stacked themselves into a wall cloud, but that would mean he would have to turn in the direction of the prison.

He just couldn’t, at least not today.”

What you just read are the first few lines of a fiction book I was able to release last year called Jonas. It's a modern retelling of the Old Testament book of Jonah based on the life of a teenager, living right in the middle of rural Kansas.

My hope in writing this book is that I could retell the story of Jonah and, of course, drive people back to the original tale in the Bible itself. I have always been fascinated by the story of the reluctant prophet, and his rebellion that God miraculously turned around.

In fact, I've preached Jonah as a series no less than three times and just spent last summer using it as a theme for camp.

I love the story of miracles, pain, healing, revival, and hope in a God who is merciful, gracious, and relenting.

I originally directed this book toward young adults, but have heard from many people across generational lines who say this story isn't just for them. Last month, the NORTH AMERICAN MISSION BOARD distributed copies to every attendee of the national Replant Summit.

My prayer is that you will find, some hope on your journey of obedience, forgiveness and healing. And, if our friend Jonas can help lead the way, we’d be all too blessed to walk with you!

You can get your copy at BookOfJonas.com and because you're a CrossPointer, use the coupon code CPinsider to get a copy at replacement cost.

“Right now, Jonas would have given anything to have one more memory, one more year, and one more set of mental pictures to scroll through in his mind. But there weren’t any more.

He’d sat motionless on that swing for an hour, face pressed against the chain taut from his body weight. He knew he probably had those impressions of chain links from temple to chin on his right side. He didn’t care.

None of this was unusual because coming to this empty park was a regular part of life for Jonas.

He loved this park, or did he hate it? He was never quite sure.

Suddenly, CRACK, BOOM!

A storm was upon him, summoning him back to the present. His 20-minute buffer expired, so he stood slowly, letting the blood flow back into his high school senior legs after sitting for too long in that child-sized seat.

Jonas rocked forward, never turning around to see what was behind, letting momentum carry him down the hill, back to his car and back to reality.”

JONAS | A book by Pastor Andy Addis

Jonas is a young man born out of tragedy. He spent his childhood putting pieces together and trying to survive, but then God asks him to do the unthinkable. If he had been moving away from God before, now he was all out running.

What happened next is a miracle of healing and hope. And, not just for Jonas.

His journey will change his life and so many others.
