Christmas Devotional

December 20

Read Luke 1:26-38

  • What worries you the most today?
  • What would you like to do if God were to help you?
  • What is God asking you to do or change?

Family Activity:

Memorize this verse and test each other: Luke 1:37 "For nothing will be impossible with God."

December 21

Read Matthew 1:18-25

  • What do you feel you need saving from?
  • Why is it important that God is with us?
  • What excites you about being a part of Jesus' story?

Family Activity:

Share with someone (family or friend) how you see God present and working in their life.

December 22

Read Luke 2:1-7

  • If you were Mary or Joseph would you have walked 90 miles for a census? Why or why not?
  • What journey are you on right now that might not feel worth it, but you trust God has a bigger plan?
  • Why was it important for Jesus to be born in such adverse conditions?

Family Activity:

Take a walk outside, notice the weather and anything that makes this walk hard. Imagine how hard it was for a pregnant Mary to walk 90 miles out of obedience to a decree. Spend time thanking God for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus' obedience.

December 23

Read Luke 2:8-20

  • What would your response be if an angel appeared to you?
  • What do you think it means when it says that Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart?
  • Which is the hardest after you have heard from God? To hear, believe, step out in faith, or praise Him?

Family Activity:

After dark, drive around your community to enjoy Christmas lights or lay under your Christmas tree. Talk about the similarities between the angel in the story and the Christmas lights you see.

December 24

Read Matthew 2:1-12

  • Did you learn anything new regarding the story of the three wise men?
  • If you're honest with yourself, are you not interested in Jesus, hate Jesus, or worship Jesus?
  • How does the fact that this good news is for all people (even people like the wise men) give you hope?

Family Activity:

Grab a piece of paper and some crayons or colored pencils and draw a star. Decorate it how you want with any colors and designs. Cut it out and place it on your Christmas tree to remind you of the star that leads us to see Christ.
